For 28 and 32 count fabric, you will need a half yard of linen.
For 36 count fabric, you can used a wide quarter as long as you are okay with a 2-inch border on the shorter side.
For 40 count fabric, a wide quarter is just enough to stitch and have a 3-inch border on all sides.

Test a small sample if you intend to wash, esp darker colours. It has been rinsed and set carefully and should be colourfast - but always better safe than sorry.
